Some Beginning-of-the-Year Housekeeping Announcements from Dr. Pelham

1. Student ID badges will be distributed during lunch TODAY (Thursday, August 10). Students must sign for their badge. These serve as the MTA bus passes. Replacement cards are $15

2. Schedule change request forms are now available in the academy offices. Schedules are only changed if a student needs the class change to meet graduation requirements, if the student already had a credit in the course, or if there is a mistake. Classes are not changed based on preference of teacher, classmates, or period. This form must be signed by the student’s parent/guardian. The deadline to submit this form is Friday, August 18, 2017.

3. Hillsboro is the first school in MNPS to have a student with a service dog. We welcome and support this opportunity and want to be sure that it is a successful and safe venture for all. We will be sending home letters with every child who is in classes with the service dog to better communicate how we can do this. The most important thing to remember is that, even though the dog is very cute, he is not a pet and we should not try to interact with him; this makes it more difficult for him to do his job. For more information about ADA requirements for service animals, click here.

4. Burro Bash, our annual “welcome back” family picnic, is this Sunday, August 13, from 4 to 6:30 PM on the front lawn. The next night (Monday, August 14) will be our Meet the Teachers Open House; after a brief presentation in the auditorium at 6:00, parents will experience a shortened version of their student’s class schedule. Please try to attend BOTH of these fun and informative back-to-school events.
