On Tuesday, August 27 at 5:00 PM (before the school-wide open house), football players and families are invited to come meet coaches, players and other parents, get schedules, sign important papers, and more. Light refreshments will be served. Flyer below with more information. Go Burros!
All year long, a number of the nation’s best colleges visit Hillsboro to meet with prospective students. Registering for each visit is required, and interested students should first research the college online to see if it holds the course work they are interested in pursuing. This fall, the following colleges are recruiting at Hillsboro: University of Louisville, Lipscomb University, University of Alabama, New York University, Trinity College, Sarah Lawrence College, Hanover College, University of Chicago, Bellarmine University, Colby College, Emory & Henry College, Connecticut College, Austin Peay, Amherst College, Rhodes College, George Washington University, Miami University (Ohio), Vassar, Smith College, Georgia Southern University, University of Kentucky and Emerson College. See the complete schedule here: www.smore.com/22x8p.
Hillsboro students viewed a new video in PLT each day during the first week of school. Thank you to Amy Cate for producing these awesome videos to welcome our students back to the 2019-2020 school year!
The 2019 Burro Bash was one for the record books! We moved this annual event from the front lawn to the new Burro Boulevard and enjoyed festivities in our new indoor and outdoor space. We welcomed 19 Green Hills restaurants who donated a veritable feast for about 600 Burros and family members.
The Marching Band and Cheerleaders delivered a proper kickoff, followed by a welcome from Executive Principal Dr. Shuler Pelham. PTSO co-presidents Lissa Taylor and Angela Stone invited all parents and guardians to get involved in the PTSO, and Erin and Theo Morrison (Class of ’87) announced the 2019-2020 Invest Campaign. The PTSO is going to raise $65,000 for Hillsboro this year, and everyone’s help is needed! The Dad Band kept the music going with special performances from students, including Alora, Zuzu, Libby, Hadley, Ella, Kate, Rachel, the 11-piece jazz ensemble Hillsboro Funky Bunch (Charlie, James, Sam, Peter, Lucas, Gideon, Nahshon, Alan, Kaylee, David and Jonathan), Noah and Steven. It takes courage to get up in front of your school to perform, and these kids have got it in spades! We wrapped up the student performances with Don’t Stop Believin’, a musical theater number from the HHS Players spring musical, Rock of Ages.
Back by popular demand were free haircuts from some of Nashville’s top barbers. Big thanks to OG Govanor, Nashville King, Red, King MJB, The Youngest Barber King, money_cutzz, and Forty Ten Barber Studio for donating fresh new looks to our students!
New this year was the Taste of Green Hills Food Court, courtesy of 19 Green Hills restaurants! We had fresh juice from the Juice Bar, hot pizza from Papa John’s, cold custard from Shake Shack, fresh broccoli salad from Emmy Squared Pizza, chips, salsa and guac from Chipotle, BBQ sliders from Green Hills Grille, signature pasta from Taziki’s, three different noodle dishes from Noodles, cookies and pastries from Panera Bread, chips and dips and decadent dessert bars from Freebirds World Burrito, a Texas donut from Donut Den, baked chicken, pasta and salad from Carrabba’s, shaved prime rib on toast points from Char, rice and honey-seared chicken from Pei Wei (and water cups!), chicken fried rice from Chinatown and several chopped salads from California Pizza Kitchen, smoothies from Smoothie King, cookies from Trader Joe’s and sandwiches from the Lipscomb Subway. Whew! If you didn’t leave stuffed, you just didn’t try.
The Clubs Fair was packed with about 25 different extracurricular activities and ways to get involved. Thank you to all the clubs, teams and academies who packed out Club Row!
Thanks to all the faculty, staff, students, businesses and volunteers who came together to throw this killer party – we Burros know how to celebrate!
The answer is yes! It may not look like it (especially from Hillsboro Road), but phase 1 of our campus reconstruction project is right on schedule. Some of the final touches may not be in place, but the new building and front office addition will be ready for the start of school Monday, August 5. Even several weeks ago, when the photos below were taken, many areas, including the media center, cafeteria, and small gym, were move-in ready.
