Why Hillsboro?

Founded in 1939, Hillsboro is a diverse public high school with a tradition of strong academics, outstanding athletics (Go, Burros!), and award-winning arts. Hillsboro’s 1,200+ students benefit from the implementation of two highly regarded approaches to secondary education: the Academy model and the International Baccalaureate.

Academies are small learning communities with a particular theme or focus. Hillsboro’s Academies complement academic core classes with specialty courses and programs related to three focus areas: science and healthcare; business and communications; and intense college prep; click here to learn more.

Hillsboro became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2004. Today, more than 7,000 schools worldwide—both public and private—offer one or more of the IB’s unique, high-quality educational programmes, which combine global-mindedness and academic rigor with an emphasis on students’ personal development and professional development for teachers. Hillsboro is the only high school in Tennessee authorized to offer the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 9 & 10 and the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme for grades 11 & 12.

With multiple pathways to college and career and a wide range of extracurricular activities to choose from, Hillsboro students can pursue their own interests and truly personalize their high school experience. The unique opportunities available and Hillsboro’s reputation for excellence bring students to our Green Hills campus from throughout Davidson County.

An exciting new chapter in Hillsboro’s history is underway. A $90 million campus reconstruction project will finally give our students world-class facilities to match the world-class education they get with the International Baccalaureate and our Academies.
