Debate Team Season Wrap Up (2/25/2019)

The newly reconstituted Hillsboro debate team participated in the Nashville Urban Debate League’s City Championship tournament at Montgomery Bell Academy last weekend. Shoaib Laghari, Fatima Laghari, Kurt Schelzig, Jared Gamble, Elijah Ikard, Warsame Said, and Lance Obrohta all competed.

Despite their relative lack of experience, the team was seriously competitive in every debate this season, even winning best team in an earlier tournament. Several individuals placed consistently in the top third of all teams, with Kurt Schelzig winning best speaker of the tournament three times. Congratulations to all of these Burros and a huge thank you to AIBDP English teacher Joseph Nettles for coaching the team.
