Youth in Government Recap

Congratulations to Hillsboro’s Youth in Government team on their good showing at this year’s Tennessee YMCA Youth in Government conference! Below is a recap from sponsor Adrian Bahan:

It was quite a weekend to spend downtown, with both political and environmental turbulence. Between the storms blowing in the Capitol on the day of the conference and the winds blowing through downtown during the conference, our students were prepared and showed all attendees what a power delegation looks like. Standouts at this year’s conference included Maggie Howard, who will be just the second HHS delegate to attend the Conference on National Affairs. This opportunity is only awarded to 8 out of the 540 delegates who attend the conference. Jonah Lehmann will attend next year’s conference as House Speaker Pro Tem, and he and Seamus Purdy were awarded the Outstanding Delegate Award. Other students from HHS were recognized for the Outstanding Bill Award and, in a rare feat, two of our teams had their bills signed into law. More importantly, these students created positive experiences for themselves and others, and in times of uncertainty, they are learning firsthand what good governance looks like.
